Halloween Eyeball Wreath

I couldn't sleep last night so I got busy making the Halloween eyeball wreath I've been imagining.

I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to do it so I gathered a bunch of supplies from my craft stash. The wreath form and black ribbon were a dollar each from the Dollar Tree, the black glitter leaves and flowers are from Michael's and cost a dollar too, the black tulle is leftover from another project and the eyeballs are bouncy balls and a big bag cost only $4 at Target. I wanted to wrap the wreath in black grosgrain ribbon but it turns out I needed two spools to cover the form. So I changed course and wrapped it in the black tulle.

As soon as I saw the bag of these bouncy ball eyeballs at Target earlier in the season I knew they would make a great Halloween wreath. I attached them by poking a hole in the back of the ball.

Then I inserted the head of a flat stick pin into the pilot hole I made. The ball does a fabulous job of self-healing and I lost my pilot holes several times. I also got stuck a lot by the stick pin. I should've grabbed my thimble. Hindsight. Good news is the ball holds on tight to the pin. No way it's sliding off. No need for my super glue.

I played around with where to put the eyeballs. Random order, pairs, circular pattern? The Dollar Tree wreath ring held strong to the stick pins. A shake of the wreath caused not one eyeball to drop. 

After I had the eyeballs the way I wanted them it felt bare. I experimented with the black silk flowers and ribbon but settled on adding a black glitter leaf behind each eyeball.

I removed each eyeball one at a time and slipped a leaf on the pin behind.

The entire wreath was done without any glue, just stick pins securing the tulle, leaves and eyeballs. This means I can deconstruct it after Halloween to make a new wreath. And the hole is invisible in the balls. I can remove the pins and use them in another project or let the kids play with them. Or pass them out with candy at Halloween next year.

It's very happy resting on the back of the front door in the front hall.

Although it does look pretty fabulous on my red front door too.
